Pirates 4 Director Confirmed

Pirates 4 Director Confirmed

From aceshowbiz.com:

"Now that "Nine" is in post-production stage, Rob Marshall has the time to start thinking about his next project, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides". Marshall has confirmed his participation in the Disney movie franchise during a recent DGA screening of "Nine", AICN reported.

Moderator Nora Ephron turned to Marshall during the Q & A session, asking about his next project. To this Marshall responded, "Ya'know, it's something that I was offered and never in the world thought I would do but then I was like 'why not?'... I'm doing 'Pirates of the Caribbean."

In fact, Marshall has met Johnny Depp who has also confirmed in September that he is set to reprise the role as Jack Sparrow. Both Marshall and Depp reportedly are "excited to work together".

The words about Marshall directing the fourth movie have spread as rumors in July. But even the production status was still uncertain back then. With his public announcement about directing "On Stranger Tides", Marshall has debunked Bill Nighy's statement last month that the fourth movie's fate is still blurry. "

Pirates of the Caribbean actor Jonathan Pryce calls for an end to the popular films

Pirates of the Caribbean actor Jonathan Pryce calls for an end to the popular films

From telegraph.co.uk:

"Highly paid for his role as the father of Keira Knightley's character in the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films, Jonathan Pryce is, though, not afraid to bite the hand that feeds him.

"Getting funding for one-off, low-budget films is impossible; all they'll do is carry on repeating the big blockbusters," complains the celebrated Welsh actor. "In fact, they're talking about Pirates of the Caribbean four, five and six now.

"I did the first three because I really couldn't see any good reason not to, and I find a trip to the Caribbean can always twist one's arm, but nobody expected it to be the huge success that it became, and these sequels, well, I think it's incredibly short-sighted of the industry and it doesn't do the public justice really."

He adds: "It was the audiences who discovered how good Pirates was in the first place, and they should be given the opportunity to discover other newer and greater things."

Uncertainty Looms Around 'Pirates of the Caribbean 4'

Uncertainty Looms Around 'Pirates of the Caribbean 4'

From Aceshowbizz.com:

"Ever since Walt Disney Studios former Chairman Dick Cook took the D23's stage to announce "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides", reports after reports have come in about the development of this fourth "Pirates" movie. But, during a press event for "Astro Boy", actor Bill Nighy told Sci Fi Wire that any announcement about the movie is premature.

"I understand that there was an announcement that there was going to be a fourth, and now I've been told since that that was not a reliable announcement," the actor who plays Davy Jones in "Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" said. Though so, he didn't completely rule out the possibility of a fourth film. "I'm pretty sure that there will be [a fourth]," he said. "I would be amazed if there weren't, given the success of the first three."

As for the chance of him reprising his role on the fourth film, the 59-year-old revealed that he is up for it should the filmmakers want him back. "I would love to be in it, because I had a wonderful time with those," he confessed. "They were great people, and those films are beloved, so it would be great to be in a fourth one."

So far, reports of "On Stranger Tides" suggested that the movie is eying a summer 2011 U.S. release. It will follow Jack Sparrow in his quest to find the Fountain of Youth. He will team up with Captain Barbossa in order to "defeat some supernatural terror". Director Gore Verbinski, the helmer of the first three "Pirates" movie, won't take on the directing job this time around.

Over the past month or so, words had been swirling that Johnny Depp may have a change of heart about his involvement after Cook was booted out of Disney. A representative for the mouse house has slammed the speculation though, stating that the Hollywood star will not be replaced in the fourth movie."

Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 Really Is Based On A Book

Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 Really Is Based On A Book

From Cinemablend.com:

"When Disney announced the title of the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie would be Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, many instantly speculated that it might be based on a same named pirate book written by author Tim Powers in the 80s. Today speaking with the LA Times Powers confirmed that, yep, it is.

Disney optioned the book three years ago this April, which would mean they already knew what the movie would be about just a few months before our scooper spilled the beans to us. The book is everything we’ve suspected the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie would be about all along. It involves the pirate Blackbeard on a quest for the Fountain of Youth.

Discussing how his book compares to the existing Pirates films Powers says, “My main character doesn't overlap with Jack Sparrow at all [in personality or circumstance]; they're totally different characters. I suppose they might overlap the Geoffrey Rush character Barbossa and Blackbeard. The only thing I feel certain they will hold on to is the Fountain of Youth since they telegraphed that at the end of the last movie.” So if you’ve already read On Stranger Tides, it sounds like you shouldn’t count on the fourth Caribbean movie being exactly the same. More likely Disney is picking and choosing parts to use."
